What is the National Energy Guarantee (NEG)?

In October, the Federal Government announced the National Energy Guarantee (NEG) requiring that retailers have access to energy from dispatchable sources including fossil fuel, solar, hydro and gas. This means that retailers must be able to source energy from a mix of generation suppliers reducing their reliance on coal fired generation as we transition to a low carbon economy. Retailers will be given targets to drive down emissions in the sector by 26% compared to 2005 levels by 2030 as part of Australia’s commitment to the Paris Agreement. More information on the National Energy Guarantee

Whilst the introduction of this policy signals the Government’s commitment to an alternative solution to reliance on Australia’s ageing energy infrastructure, we continue to operate in a state of uncertainty.
